Working Out Alone vs. with a Personal Trainer
Working out alone can be a great way to strengthen your body and improve overall health.
There is no denying that getting physically fit and healthy has many benefits to it. However,
sometimes using your own resources (or the wrong ones) can lead to disappointing results, a
lack of motivation and worse injuries. Without a foundation of basic concepts and form,
challenges will start to arise, again and again.
This is where an experienced Fitness Trainer comes into play. A trainer can not only help you
work out safely teaching you correct form, they also help you set realistic goals, provide
constructive feedback and provide you with knowledge & experience that you may not have.
They also build your confidence in the gym, as many people struggle with feeling uncomfortable
in the gym or repeating the same workout day in day out because they simply don't know how to
use the machines and equipment. Rather than risk the chance of doing something wrong or
'looking silly' in front of others, many feel safer sticking to the same thing or not going at all.
These are just a few examples of why working out alone isn't always ideal for everyone and this
is why trainers make all the difference.
A Fitness Trainer will first assess your physical abilities with a health and fitness assessment
and make an informed decision on what's best for you to use based on your capabilities and
goals. During your time with your trainer you'll learn how to use different equipment/machines,
workout efficiently using no equipment and the fundamentals to working out such as the
importance of breathing techniques, stretching, hydration and then some. Each time you see
your trainer you'll have a routine ready and tailored to your needs, someone tracking your
progress and goals and someone motivating you to push through and keep going. Sometimes
these are things that we can't manage on our own with all that our busy lives come with.
What's even better is that in 2022 the accessibility of getting a trainer has become easier from a
location and financial perspective. You may have found the perfect person who you'd like to train
with. Something about their energy, their vibe that really picks you up and motivates you to
wanna get healthy, but they live in a different state. Nowadays many trainers offer virtual training
which is perfect for the busy person who just doesn't have the time to physically go to the gym
and back, or the person who gets anxious working out in front of others. People have the option
to get one on one training in the comforts of their own home until they are ready and confident
to work out in front of others, or until their schedule permits. Access to a trainer has also
become something more financially feasible for many despite the surging prices of everything
else around us. With many trainers offering online content you can consume at home you can
find access to on demand videos, free content, and the option to join classes which allows for
the costs to be shared amongst the group making it a more affordable option. What's better than
having choices?!
So what is the takeaway from all of this? The answer, like with most things in life, you can do it
by yourself or you can get help, and who doesn’t need a hand to make things easier? There are
pros and cons to working out by yourself or with a trainer, and you should feel free to choose
one over the other depending on your personal preferences. However, if you are not very
confident in your fitness abilities, it's probably best to err on the side of caution and get a trainer.
That said, we always want you to do what’s best for you and hope this article proves useful in
your decision.

people so they can tell us what to do.” – Steve Jobs
