Body Positivity - Becoming comfortable with the body you're in

Loving the body you're in is not always the easiest, especially with the pressure and influence

from social media. Societies aggressive methods of declaring what perfection looks like is

enough to make the most confident individual question their self-esteem. It happens to us a

number of times throughout life as beauty standards are forever changing and like the humans

we are, we're constantly changing too. Knowing how to navigate through those changes and

fluctuations is how you can avoid getting stuck in a bout of depression, experiencing body

dysmorphia and self esteem issues.

Body Positivity is a major movement that exposes the toxic societal pressures and norms which

cause you to view yourself negatively as a result of your body shape, size or other physical

attributes and not looking the same as the models, influencers and celebrities. We forget that

behind these screens are filters, photo editors, photographers, make up artists, things that the

average income earning individual does not have access to and an expense many of us would

refuse even if we could afford it.There are a variety of implications resulting from these negative

attitudes—such as lower self-esteem, eating disorders and severe depression. This is why

spreading love and self-confidence in your body is so important! It's not only good for you, but

it's also good for those around you. Be an inspiration and motivation of what self confidence

looks like, it's better than looking like someone else could ever be.

Body Positivity is about making healthy changes in your life for yourself which results in a

happier mind and a healthier body. It's the conscious effort to understand and embrace what

makes you unique and beautiful every day. There are a number of ways in which you can make

positive impact changes that boost your body confidence. To list a few, you can;

● Tailor your social media feeds - remove accounts that don't have a positive influence in

your life or your self-talk. If you don't want to get rid of them completely, take a break and

adjust your settings.

● Write down the things you love about your body, take them to a mirror and tell your

reflection why you love these parts. Take a moment to appreciate the reflection staring

back at you. It's BEAUTIFUL!

● Separate your self-worth from your body image. They are two completely different

categories and should be treated as such. Your value as a person is not defined by your

looks and never will be.

These are just a few ways to boost your body confidence. It's the ability to take control of your

life and your self esteem that will allow your beauty to exude through you. Know that you are

phenomenal, your body is absolutely divine, unique and was created with purpose and passion.

Being your authentic self is what's most attractive and what wins every time.

“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You
need to accept yourself.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
